The Orthodox Community of the Holy Mother of God and St. Oswald is England’s most northerly, in Orthodox terms filling a gap on the map as lengthy as, say London to Bristol or Grantham.
Not yet a parish, we are a Eucharistic Community served by our sister parishes, St Andrew’s Community, Edinburgh, EH8 1NR https://edinburgh-orthodox.org.uk and St Anthony the Great Community, Newcastle, NE1 5JG, https://st-anthony-the-great.org.uk both also in the Greek jurisdiction. We are in close contact with these Communities as we are dependent on them for our priest, and also supplying our requirements. We periodically visit them for worship. We are probably unique in having not grown from an existing ethnic group, the more usual basis for an Orthodox Church, and additionally in serving a rural rather than urban area. Accordingly, all our services are in English and our outlook is very much Pan-Orthodox and we welcome all Orthodox believers regardless of jurisdiction. We also welcome seekers and enquirers!
